However, since it sounds like it was cut off at the beginning and end, it may just be a string of numbers, each divided by "/".

The date is the more romantic option. ;-)
OK..thanks.. I go for the 28th of April 1943 :-)
The current patrol is in 1939.. so that's why my Radioman didn't know it I think..
