OK, one more question. Double s... some entries use ss, others ß, for example, Dreßler and Dressler. I know both are right, but how would a German actually write it (and if it makes a difference, in WWII)? If ß, does that mean that every entry with an ss should be replaced with a ß?
Likewise does oe = ö, etc?
The ulterior motive here is the extra character space that would be freed.
BTW "auf der Mauer" seems a strange surname?
