SH3 is the home of supermods. GWX. LSH3. NYGM. RUB. WAC. The possibilities are limitless.
GWX (Grey Wolves eXpansion) is widely considered the most balanced, with under-the-hood changes plus greatly improved graphics and good campaign information
LSH3 (Living Silent Hunter 3) is mostly a graphics mod, but it is a great one, adding things to the game that no other mod does.
NYGM (Not Your Grandmother's Mod) is devoted almost entirely to gameplay improvements, and it performs that function admirably.
RUB (Real U-Boat) is quite old now, but was the original SH3 supermod and the inspiration for NYGM.
WAC (War Ace Campaign) adds graphics as well, but is mostly dedicated to putting in every historical situation possible, so you can play out the actual war.
OM is good, but it pales compared to almost any of the SH3 mods.
And don't forget SH3 Commander, the career-making companion to any supermod. It's what keeps me playing SH3.
