There is a very common CTD bug when starting with a new kaleun on an initial cruise.

You can do anything you are able before switching to the IXc.

Once you switch to the IXc, make no changes whatsoever. Do not add crew. Start your patrol. If it loads, end the patrol, and you are now free to make whatever changes you like.

I always follow this procedure with a new kaleun and/or a new boat. I just call it a shakedown cruise and get on with the war.

I make no promises. This may help, and it certainly won't hurt.
