Over the years, I have played in a few bands, mainly as a pickup player (I really, really hate going on the road), so I have seen some pretty spectacularly bad band names, especially in the mid-60s to the early 80s. One band name, and this was real, was in about 68-69 and was called "Never Hit Your Granny on the Head with a Shovel 'Cause It'll Leave a Bad Impression on Her Mind". This name was later used to mane a sort of hippie boutique in Los Angeles...

A favorite name-game a fellow musician friend used to like to play was a sort of band/marquee name game. You had to think up a name that would have ambiguous meanings when placed on a club marquee (we used to imagime it on the marquee of the Whisky-A-Go-Go on the Sunset Strip). The more obvious ones were:

"Free Beer"
"Under New (or Old) Management"
"Closed Tonight"
"No Band Tonight"
"Pot Convention"
"Acid Gratis"
"Call Police - Urgent!"

and so on...
