how often, actually, do you see reflections of boats in the water when viewed from a distance, in conditions other than a glassy calm?

the two images where there are no reflections seem to me more convincing than the images where there are reflections

what do you think?

how would this image look, for example, without reflections?

i just wanted to illustrate what i mean..

if you do a google image search for merchant ship there are lots of examples of ships in water with various sea states.

reflections in my opinion are only visible in the following conditions:

- glassy water
- with strongly reflected sunlight off the ship e.g. in the early morning and evening
- when viewed from a higher elevation

i think there are fewer reflections in other conditions than the sh3 (and sh4 and 5) engines normally show. If there's a way to substantially reduce the occurrence of reflections this might look more convincing

e.g this picture of a ship in good weather, viewed from just above sea level, but there are many examples
