This is just utter stupidity.. as an athlete the last thing on your mind during a competition should be worrying about getting sick or shaking hands.
As a wrestler I just laugh at this. If I'm willing to roll around with other people while sweating, etc then bugs carried on the hands are the least of my concerns.
