Another vote for 7zip. It absolutely takes Winrar out back of the barn and beats it with a bamboo cane! It will read everything Winrar does and then adds in all the other conceivable compression schemes too. And it's not shareware that you have to be an outlaw to use for free, it's absolutely free and leaves you an honest individual. That's worth a lot in my estimation.
