My mother hated British comedy. I truly think she just didn't understand it.

I still lived at home the first 2 years of college. I came home after work one night just in time to catch Fawlty Towers on the static laden PBS station in Iowa City.

She sat down just in time to see "Flowery Twats" on the sign in front of the hotel. She laughed for the next 30 minutes. It was glorious.
That bit of John Cleese's genius is all it took for her to finally "get it".
