The first time you go to Blackreach, you must go via the Dwemer ruins. But once
you're there, you find few elevators that take you straight to the surface and
can be later used to go directly to Blackreach.
Heh, the game kicked up the difficulty quite a bit when I went after Alduin after
capturing the other dragon. Not a very good place to be as a dual wielder.
