Spanish off portugal 1804.... in the papers last week........It was the Nuestra Senora de las Mercedes, the salvage company is Odyssey, the main court hearings were in Florida and Georgia plus there was an earlier counterclaim on the gold made by Peru.
First they had claimed that the ship was unidentifiable(despite being already covered by very strict salvage regulations in those waters) then after positive identification from the cannon and artifacts they had recovered they tried to start a wild goose chase defence of claiming that instead of handing the money to the government they would attempt to track the decendants of the lost crew and maybe give them shares.
Odyssey, isn't that the crowd that have got permits from your govt. to search the channel for lost British treasure. Best hope they don't try and land it in Sealand and then smuggle it back home.
