Mind you I've been reading so much about range , bearing , AoB that I've probaly missed something obvious.
SH3 doesn't have latitude and longitude. Any message with those coordinates is there for flavor only, so you don't feel like you're alone in the war. They are real messages sent during the war, and appear on their proper dates.

It's a good thing the game doesn't take any of that into account. I usually leave them alone early in the war, but later I assume they have radios and will report my position. You're right, though - it is fun sometimes.
