So I've noticed on a few occasions now sometimes an escort destroyer will come at me, and if I hit it and it does not sink (a rarity - they usually sink) it will "run away" and go back to the convoy.

I'm curious as to whether this is intentional, to simulate the damaged destroyer "breaking off" or whether this is some kind of bug.

They certainly will return fire if you surface. I let one "run away" to about 5000 meters and surfaced, and he was shooting at me. I nailed him with my deck gun - it only took a few hits to sink him as he was already damaged.

I'm playing with GWX.
