Along with the recommendation to get the aforementioned mod, which is almost mandatory, if the seas are too rough, F5 won't work and neither will ordering the 2WO to give the command. You must
physically walk to and man the station personally, which mans it regardless of seas. If the seas are too rough, you may have enough time to get one or two shots off, but it will function. If the crew leaves you alone at the deck gun due to rough seas, you can still fire it, but the windage and elevation are locked in and the odds of missing are almost certain unless you are very close to the target, where the trajectory doesn't have enough time to overshoot the mark.
