Meh...it's just another day to me. It seems to have been arbitrarily picked out of a hat. The real New Years should have been the winter solstice (summer for you, of course), when the south pole was pointed at the sun.
And Jesus was probably born sometime in the spring of what we now call 4 BC (or BCE for you newfangled all-encompassing date types).
