I think you can die from them if you crash em at flank speed, which is possible if you are in TC, since the nets are near the surface of the water. They can't be passed on the surface; at least not by u-boat...

Before the advent of flying spycams, those nets were very dangerous... Not so if you use the futuristic equipment.
