It's about wounded narcissism. That somebody says No to the EU is more than this self-glorifying entity can bear.

So the French criticism as well as the German non-chalance ("You're still one of us") both are two different strategies for the same purpose: to distract from the fact that not only the Euro but also the EU are in very deep trouble.

The Frnmech also see the pillar of their foreign political strategy in danger: for Frnache, Europe is just a French backyars and France' natural role is to reign it. Militarily obviously that is no longer possible, and economically they lack the muscle. So they seek allies in Northern Africa, and chose for a tight-lipped alliance with the Germans who may have the muscle to dominate Europe, but do no longer want that (recent German leadership in the fincial crisis is more a case of self-defence, and is not meant for eternity anyway). For France, which always understood the EU and the Euro as tools to prevent a strong D-Mark and a German dominance in Europe), a collapsing Euro and EU thus would mean failure to secure their hope to be the reigners of Europe ever could become true.

And Britain? Britain is simply over own finances, securing unlimited range for predatory capitalism especially in the finance sector, and securing a EU that is so overcrowded with operetta-captains thatit will always find it extremely difficult to agree on a reasonable course in troubled water. Divided command is weak command.

Eurocrats babble so much about unity and alliance and shared goals. Hah! It is no united alliance, especially none in the name of the people and for the sake of people's freedoms. It is a crowd of 27 egomanic gangsters having no scruples to abuse each other when it benefits themselves. Company? Friendship? Sure. I also still believe in the stork bringing the babies. It is about controlling the people, and trying to get as much of the pie of power as possible.

Control dominates every issue there. Democracy, freedom, liberty, transparency - the craving for total control surpasses all.
