For me it was that I used WinRAR and never felt the need to switch. I tried 7zip once, and I remember I had some problems with it (can't even remember what now) - but I didn't really try to resolve the issues either. I expect instant gratification where it concerns compression apps!

Perhaps I have a subconscious affinity for WinRAR as well, as the name is very similar to WinZIP, the compression app I cut my teeth on. Now these types of apps are a lot like sound cards - used to make a huge difference which one you used, but now even the "inferior" products are pretty darn good!
