Newer copies should already be fully patched when you purchase them. If your copy was purchased within the last 2-3 years (at least) it should already be v1.4 without any patching required.

Are you sure it's not already v1.4? Was it a used copy or something? I bought mine in 2009 and it was already v1.4 when I got it.
