Not sure if that's a RSRD generated message or stock game message, my guess is it's a generic stock message. The convoy traffic in RSRD or shipping lanes don't change much if at all. What does happpen is in 44 many traffic lanes in open water go dry for the most part, so better hunting exist in shipping lanes near coast. Little traffic actually hugs the coast, which is ashame. I actually have tweaked RSRD more to my liking and did add convoys to hug the China coast working through island chains where it was possible. I routed much of it in and out of the bays. Really hard to get at these, only success is at night using surface attacks.
The two best shipping lanes are Formosa and Borneo/Palawan in 44. Lot's of traffic. Most the shipping comes from Singy to west coast of Borneo up past Palawan up past the Philippines to Japan or through Formosa. In Oct and Nov of 44 large TF gather at Brunei Bay for the upcoming large battle at Leyte. If you sit outside Brunei around Oct 12-17 large TF enter Brunei, can't remember exact dates. They will spawn again from Brunei within a few days to head for the Battle of Leyte, etc.., and again return to Brunei. If you wait around Nov, all the TF spawn again and head to different ports.
You'll also run into many convoys during this time near Brunei, the problem is not having enough torps. I sat outside of Brunei Oct-Nov and sank 270K tons using all torps, deckgun and 40's. Luckily I ran into some large convoys in storms and used deckgun and 40 bofars and saved torps for large warships. You should catch most if you sit 30 nm's of the coast.
The Formosa passage also holds great hunting in 44, if you have the balls for it. Maybe my favorite place to hunt. Large convoys come through going north and south, most have deadly escorts like the Type AB, you don't want to get trapped in shallow water. The deeper water in the center is mined, not to mention lots of radar planes and a few subkiller groups. North entry is also mined. I usually sit north in the passage and track groups until I can attack at night.
Late 44 and 45 most traffic comes through the Korea Straits, fairly much dead everywhere else.
