Giggle snort.

I remember my uniforms. Made by the lowest of the lowest bidders. I remember when I first took my Service Dress to a tailor to get it fitted. He was shocked at the quality control and ended up totally disassembling it and re working all the stitching.

I got my first lesson on this in Basic Training. We had to go to the BX and purchase towels. Being a new troop, I made the assumption that all the towels would be rectangular. This marked the first and last time I ever made any assumption on the quality of military products.

It took me a day to understand why I was having such a hard time folding and hanging my stupid towel straight like everyone else. I mean how hard can it be to fold a towel into a rectangle? Well, actually pretty hard when the towel is not rectangular but is just quadrilateral.

I reported this "irregularity" to the TI. He replied, with the typical sympathy and understanding that is the hallmark of the military, that this was actually my fault and that I should have checked to see that the towel was indeed rectangular and not just a quadrilateral.
