How undefendable it is you see in that you get fired when speaking out the obvious truth. I think the general is right in his assessments.
I new two BW officers who were in Afghanistan some years ago. If this general gets fired for his comments, those two would have gotten hanged for what they had to say in private.

Agree. It is a case of the man on the ground, knowing more than the politicians, desk monkeys, and beauricrats who infest the pentagon.
Maybe if less "political appointments" were in charge up top we would know when something was unwinnable.
