I think that most video games get repetitive if you keep playing them over and over.
When I get bored with SH4 (and to be honest it is not the most exciting video game out there) I, like the others, take a break and play something else.
Does that make SH4 a badly designed game? Not at all. The nature of the game is that there are long periods of doing nothing (even with TC) followed by shorter periods of implementing one of a handful of procedures. That's pretty much it. And if you have a patrol where you never see any ships you don't even get the chance to run your procedures.
About every 5th mission something sporty will happen that makes it all worth while. In this case, SH4 is a great WWII submarine simulator - one is either bored to death or scared to death.
So when (not if) SH4 becomes boring to you, just take a break and load up some other game. The nice thing about WWII is that it will always be ready to start up when you reload SH4.
Funny how every time I get the yen to play SH4, the Japanese seem to bomb Pearl Harbour. Weird.
