its happened before and its going to happen again next year - that is factual, what the full effects will be is speculation, scientists arent certain if flares will be strong enough to penatrate the earths natural defences or not.
It could be chaos or it could be nothing. Its a roll of the dice as they say.
But it is nessecary for us, to prepare for 'potential' threats is it not?
But yes if it makes you feel superior - maybe linking the above example with the phrase 'face facts' wasnt the best choice of wording.
My main casepoint is simply that the future looks unpleasent, hence fema camps, emergency broardcast drills etc etc. mind you if the solarflares do harm our power grid? the latter isnt going to be of much use.
