I've seen a V&W Destroyer sink her self before.
She spotted me in very heavy seas and she took an extremely sharp turn doing 29+ knots and crested a wave running parallel to the ship.
This caused her to hit the water at a 45 degree angle and she eventually sunk from the flooding.

This was in SH3 vanilla.
It was very cool to see and seemed very realistic.
