The red mist has receded a little.

After over an hours trawling (some whilst writing my last post), I managed to find a page on a forum that tells you how to UNLINK an old youtube account from a defunct google/hotmail address.
Not that I could find this via google help or youtube help... great 'transparency' there.

Fortunately I remember my original youtube account name and password - the one that stopped working way back when google took over youtube and started all this account linking rubbish.

Really, it should not be that difficult to make it easy for USERS to change their accounts as and when they see fit, particularly when we are dealing with completely arbitrary links to accounts that will never ever be used as anything except a means of accessing another service; which were only created for this purpose because we were railroaded into doing so if we wanted to keep access to a particular site where we had already registered with our information.

I'm prepared to tolerate an amount of openness - I think I've talked about this before now - but not at the level of disruption and inconvenience I have just experienced.
I was told several times that the new address I had chosen was not allowed because of my choice of vocabulary, still...

All that said, I'd still quite happily bury the chap responsible under the slabs in my back yard without loosing any sleep over it.
