And we've just stepped back into a very old argument. In real life a gun that size could be loaded and fired an about four seconds. On land. In a test situation. At sea there is a small supply of ready use ammo, after which it must be passed up by hand, man to man, from the lockers below. Handlers tire quickly. The bigger problem is that a submarine is a very unstable gun platform, even in calm seas. There is no stabilization. The gunner must wait and shoot "on the roll", just like in the sailing ship days. In a calm sea this may take ten seconds or more. In any rolling sea at all he has to wait for the perfect shot, or else he'll miss. In a heavier sea that shot may never come. So the practice firing rate is almost useless.

I keep my 8.8cm gun set at 10 seconds and the 10.5cm at 12 seconds.

And even though I use the default storm settings that comes with GWX, for use with the flak gun, I never man the deck gun if I can see water washing over the deck.
