I'm not saying you are or you aren't. I would have no way of knowing that. But what I've come to realize is that I also have no way of knowing for certain whether or not I'm sane. How would you tell? It has been my observation that the people who shout the loudest that they're not crazy are the ones I worry about the most, because they don't seem to be able to tell the difference. And they're the ones most likely to turn violent if you question their sanity. Again, we haven't met, so I'm not even trying to say you are one of those. But if you don't question your own feelings and actions, who will?
Looking back over my own life I've become convinced that a lot of the problems I had when I was younger were indeed my own doing, and I'm not sure I'm over them even today. I keep a pretty tight reign on myself just because I'm aware of the possibility of doing something I'll regret later. I am partly loopy, but I know it and that helps keep me harmless.
So when someone insists that they're right about anything they think they "know", my first response is always to ask "Are you sure?" Because I'm not sure about anything, and I wonder if anyone else really is.
