It is a bit out of date.I think they should split this category into small caliber .338 Lapua and smaller and large caliber .50 cal and larger because the larger bullets can reach ranges that are not possible from a ballistics stand point for the smaller rounds and if they can go that far much more difficult.
Just like James Gilliland who got a kill outside the reasonable effective range of his .308 M24 Craig Harrison got an out standing shot well beyond the expected range.I Know that Gilliland did not even expect to hit his target he was hoping to suppress the target and by chance it hit and killed the guy but it was at an extreme nearly downwards angle his shot was actually one full mil above the highest mil on his scope so he was in effect estimating.
Now the .338 can travel as far as Harrison kill but it is beyond the expected range they plan for a trained sniper to attempt a shot with his particular weapon system. In both cases they took shots that where not guaranteed hits and made one.In my opinion that makes them both better than Furlong who got his kill with a rifle and round that can easily reach out that far.Although anything at those ranges is a very difficult shot though both Harrison and Gilliland got first shot first kills while Furlong fired 3 one barely missed the other hit the guys ruck sack the third hit the him.
