He was always a strange one; so much so that there was a little rhyme that associated itself with Gary Glitter-
'cockney' rhyming slang: Garry Glitter = up the s***ter.
I guess the authorities here found he'd not physically harmed anyone through only viewing (not my oppinion) so couldn't secure a harsher sentence.
As with most sentencing over here and elsewhere you can get put away for more years for fraud or being dodgey with money than you can for rape (child or otherwise), this has always seemed unfair to me as money is just bits of paper with an extremly abstract value, whereas people are people. I suppose this only shows where our true interests lie in the end.
But as far as the UK is concerned, out of sight out of mind- he's somebody elses problem for the time being.
