Default Die Eisernen Särge

Just finsihed Werner's Iron Coffins and enjoyed it. But then - stupidly - decided, since U-196 was due to leave Bordeaux on 27 May 1944 that I would join his (projected) pack in Der Kanal.

Off Cherbourg in 50m depth it was no problem getting in amongst the invasion fleet (can I just say an eel is almost unworthy of a tank transport at c2.2K tons!) Getting out was the b!tch... Holy *insert choice expletive*!!!!

217 depth charges later I finally make it out of the net. Total was four tank transports and one destroyer (homing), 12 dead, 7 wounded and a boat that will see the inside of dry dock for at least 8 months before its next patrol. All for a piddling 12K tonnage.

Herbet's description is impactive enough in its limited nature, but holy sh!t

Auf gefallen kameraden
