As far as I could tell there was no difference in installing GWX in Win7, I had done it previously in XP and it went about the same.
The only suggestion I would make for Win7 in general is not to install SH3 in the default location as it will want to install in Program Files, and that can cause issues with modding or "supermodding" the game as Win7 is very protective of anything in the Program Files directories.
I have the game installed outside of Program Files and had no issues installing GWX over top of it.

Just be sure you turn your volume all the way up when installing GWX or it won't work.
