At our villages Help for Heroes fete the other week, as well as the Spitfire flypast, Charles Ross was there with his cockpit section of XS899.
Well, my little girl - Heidi, who's 3 in September decided she wanted to go in it - and who am I to stop her. We queued, it started raining, she refused to come out of the queue and when it was her turn she was straight up those steps with me only just behind her.
She loved it but just would not smile whilst sat in it.
My step - Erica, on the other hand, was really nervous about climbing up, and sitting in it, but once in did smile.
The next day, at my school reunion when we were due another Spitfire flypast Heidi was very disappointed to only see an aeroplane flying, not one she could climb in to

. That's my girl.
