In fairness, the American economy was in shambles well before Barack Obama took office. His failing lies within the fact that his administration's efforts have not made ground in turning things around as he promised they would. I would be giving him the benefit of the doubt even if there was evidence of growth; it will take many years to fully recover. However, things continue to look as grim as they did before he took office. For that he must, and will, answer to the American voter. If he is able to make the case for himself, he will be re-elected. If his opponent is able to make the better case, then he will not be.
