I agree, funerals aren't for the dead, they're for the living, not to mention it's big business. It seems funerals are often the only time you see family after many years. After the last one I attended I wrote this lil poem.
Buried Alive
Now that I'm dead, friends gathered round
The pastor speaking was finally found
He was a "good man" someone had said
but I only hear it now that I'm dead
They all gather at my last place
They all walk by and stare at my face
"He looks so good" I know this is true
Dead that I am, I look better than you
Lying here getting dirt thrown in my face
as in life, even death's a disgrace
I watch them all and with a sigh
for them to hug, did I have to die
Marg hugs Bill, "Good to see you, dear"
"How long has it been,".... merely ten years
Ten years she cries "How can that be"
then kisses another, oh watch how she flees.
The farewells have all been said.
I guess I'm alone here, finally dead.
Back to your lives, wherever they be,
soon they will be looking at you,
not looking at me.
