RND allows me to randomise whether the aircraft appear, where they appear and how many aircraft there are. That means that I can create a file where there is a % chance of seeing a flight of IL-2 (with a flight consisting of between one and six aircraft) and also randomise the location they appear in. I can also mix up the aircraft in the flight so sometimes the IL-2 will be escorted by fighters and sometimes they won't.
When I have a little more time and inclination I'm considering revisiting some of my first SCR files and changing them to RND. At the moment, if you've sunk the RMS Titanic on a given day in a given location then you'll always be able to find her on that day in that place, and as long as you stake out the location she'll eventually appear on every patrol. RND reduces the chances of that happening, so sinking one of VonDos' behemoths would become a once-a-career event rather than one per patrol.
Oh, plus I just wanted a change
