I'm just a bum (musician by trade) but my dad served as a RN Radio Operator on Ton Class mine sweepers from the early 60's onwards. The Ton Class saw some heavy fighting, even in so called 'peace times' during several conflicts/uprisings in the 60's and 70's. Although originally designed as mine sweepers, they proved excellent river patrol vessels due to their maneuverability and shallow keel.
Malaya being the most documented of these conflicts, which back then was seen as a second Vietnam and would have probably gone just as pearshaped had the British used a more 'Gung Ho' American style policy.
