I just edit my career files so that I spend a maximum of two days at a resupply ship - and that's only if the boat's in bad shape. Then I pretend to limp home. For instance, I lost both scopes, radio, sonar, and a battery once when I was depth charged. Managed to survive and got to the Corrientes, where of course everything was magically repaired. But I still went straight back to base on the surface all the way and pretended the only thing that got fixed was the radio (and of course anything that the crew was able to fix themselves in "normal" damage repair mode). And I pretended that I only had the two aft eels that were still left over from before I docked to refuel.
It made for an interesting journey, limiting myself in that way. I made sure to keep out of trouble! Although we did still manage to sink a lone merchant with those two eels.
