There's a section for Visitor Messaging, if the box there is checked VM is enabled. Just uncheck it. I think it may be enabled by default but I've had mine turned off since I realized there was an option for it.
Of course if Neal's gonna disable it entirely, that's an even better fix, but you can still turn it off in the meantime.
@Neal: if you can also disable the "Talk like a 14 year old girl" option in Steve's profile, the rest of us will be eternally grateful.
