Instead of stopping them and maybe serving detention,
Detention, some parents find that screws up their childcare arrangements and school transport arrangements plus of course you have to have supervision which would probably be an additional overtime expense or require a salaried teacher to volunteer for an extra crap job.

Instead of stopping them and maybe serving detention, visit to the principal ect, they have these kids arrested
If you look at the actual incidents from the article rather than the very warped presentation of them in the article do you find that many of them have gone through all that process and more before they get arrested? Apart of course from the zero-tolerance ones where people decided they were wasting too much time trying to enforce school policy.

Disruptive in class means a fine?
Financial penalties do tend to get the message across.

Oh noooooooo..........would you like to examine that little nugget from the article and discover how it was just someone talking bollox so he could pretend he had a real point?

The schools dont LET parents decide much anymore.
Swings and roundabouts, some parents can't be arsed to make descisions and some want schools to make the descisions because they can't be arsed themselves or because they have decided that other parents can't be arsed and are unable to maintain disipline in schools of children that are not theirs.
No matter which way you cut it it comes down to the schools picking up the crap left to them from bad parents and also doing the bidding of good parents. They are in a no win situation and it is the parents(and children) not the schools who are the problem.

Do you think that schools which have introduced these "unreasonable" disciplinary measures havn't tried already all the other approaches you suggest?
