Actually the Japanese were quite aware of the little luxuries that were common in the US Navy and military as a whole. This was what their propagandists told them would ensure victory. Soft, spoiled Americans used to their fat rations, music, movies and air conditioning would collapse in conflict against the battle-hardened frugal soldiers and sailors of the Japanese Empire.
I imagine that was grim solace for the thousands of Japanese soldiers who were starving to death on isolated and bypassed islands in 1945.
