In real life not every RAF aircraft would attack, only those with the mandate and ability to do so, I'm sure more would be en route to their own legitimate targets than have the permissions to attack a u-boat. Needless to say your position would have been noted and relayed to Coastal Command / RN in the upcoming hours.
