U-96 was an Type VIIC Sub (http://www.uboat.net/boats/u96.htm) and have an black sawfish ! The green sawfish was the emblem from the 9th U-Boat-Flotilla in Brest (http://www.uboat.net/special/emblems/u96.html).

Your reference listed dosen't say anything about U96 having a black sawfish

theres that conjection, lol

But if I were a punter and based on the darkness of the emblem against the sails grey colour and the B/W photo, IMO I'd agree that it was Black or a very dark grey, but this is not a reference, and its only my opinion
