Why AP ammo?
Unless your planning on fighting Light Cruisers and up with our pea shooters, there are no armoured targets.
Destroyers, merchants, and aircraft are not armour plated.
Ships that are armoured, start with a 6 inch belt, and go way up from there.
88 mm = 3,5 inch.
105 mm = 4 inch.
You might be able to scratch their paint.
