In fairness, the last few weeks in the middle east have been anything but usual...
That said, the rhetoric was certainly always there. Yeah, the wording is absolutely routine by local standards, complete with the usual Arabic tendency for flamboyant exaggeration. And I for one am still inclined that the cold, self-interested nationalism that is prevalent particularly in the Egyptian military, isn't going to step aside for uncontrolled chaos. Let's not forget that it was the military who were the real winners in Egypt's revolt, and they're still very much in control.
