I think someone like Privateer who's got experience with sound systems is much more helpful here.
I'd say check for loose connections inside the thing. (remember, slightly touching is often the same as loose) Sometimes a good ole smack can help as well. If it doesn't, well, what's broke already can't break again, can it?
If you can find none, as Vendor says, do you have any instruments at your disposal? An oscilloscope would be a huge help to determine where it goes wrong.
