Almost gets captured on the second patrol to the east coast, and has the gonads to admit the only reason they weren't captured was because he froze at the bottom of the ladder to the bridge. He was scared out of his mind.
Wins his oak leaves for having sunk over 100k tons and gets a dinner with Hitler where he unapologetically pisses Hitler off so badly that he is reprimanded by the Chief of Staff, and Donitz is forced to re-assign him to a training command. Ends the war with the only 25th highest total tonnage sunk.
