Welcome aboard.
You are definitely having a hard time. But many of us did at the beginning. This is not an easy simulation to master. If you cannot hit the target when the triangle is green, something does not seem right.
Don't get too close to the target, because, as noted above, the torpedoes will not arm and will bounce off. I suggest you go to the skipper's bag of tricks sticky and begin reading about the Dick O'Kane method. Also, below a certain depth, I think 90 feet, you are too deep to launch torpedoes.
