Reality check: They couldn't crash dive to persicope depth. A normal dive means flooding the ballast tanks to a neutral or slightly negative trim so the boat settles at a gentle rate. Crash diving means fully flooding the tanks and moving all the trim ballast to the forward trim tank. The boat dives faster but it takes time to pump the ballast back to neutral trim and rebalance the water between the fore and aft trim tanks. Two hundred feet is normal for a crash dive. Anything else is, to put it mildly, unrealistic.
