Using the Submarine School's artillery mission (Set on July 1st, 1943), I found I could consistently escape from the aircraft by crash-diving to periscope depth and then simply proceeding away on my initial course.
That would seem to indicate that the M.A.D. model is working since these aircraft would not be so equipped at this date.
Whether they would do any better in late '44 - i Don't know. I have not been able to check since I can't figure out how to change the starting date of the mission
